Akash Missile System:

Akash is India’s first indigenously produced short-range (up to 25 km) Surface-to-Air missile.

The missile system is among the key platforms India exports to friendly foreign countries.

Akash has been developed under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP).

Features:

       Mid-range surface-to-air anti-aircraft missile.

Supersonic speeds ranging from Mach 2.8 to 3.5.

       Nuclear capable.

It is a multi target, multi directional, all weather air-defence system consisting of surveillance and tracking radars.

It has built-in electronic counter-counter measures (ECCM) features, which can help the missile punch through enemy jamming and other methods of evasion.

Akash is powered by a Ramjet-rocket propulsion system.

Range:

The missile has the capability to engage aerial threats up to the maximum range of 25 km and up to an altitude of 18 km operating at a speed range of 1.8 to 2.5 Mach.
