The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first export shipment of premium Areko Cherries and Scentrose Plums from Jammu & Kashmir to Singapore.

About Areko Cherries:
1.
A premium sweet cherry variety, native to Europe and
Western Asia.
2.
It
is cultivated under high-density orchard systems for improved
productivity and fruit quality.
3.
The
variety is known for its large size, deep red colour, sweetness,
firmness, and longer shelf life.
4.
It
is well suited to the temperate climatic conditions of Jammu &
Kashmir.
About Scentrose Plums:
1.
It is native
to China and was later extensively cultivated and improved in
Japan.
2.
It is known for its attractive reddish-purple skin,
sweet flavour, juicy pulp, and firm texture.
About APEDA:
1. Agricultural and Processed
Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA),1986 is a statutory body
established under the APEDA Act, 1985.
3.
Objective:
To promote
the export of agricultural and processed food products from India.
4.
It
provides export promotion, market development, quality certification,
infrastructure development, and capacity-building support to exporters.
5. Facilitates compliance with
international food safety, quality, and phytosanitary standards to
enhance the global acceptance of Indian agricultural products.
