The Delhi Government has notified the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV)
Policy 2.0, mandating a phased transition to electric vehicles and
introducing incentives to accelerate EV adoption and reduce air pollution.

Background:
1.
The Delhi Electric
Vehicle (EV) Policy was first launched in 2020 to promote electric
mobility, reduce vehicular emissions, and improve air quality in the National
Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi.
2.
Building on the success of
the 2020 policy, the Delhi EV Policy 2.0 (2026) aims to
accelerate the transition to clean, zero-emission transport
through expanded EV adoption, charging infrastructure, financial incentives,
and phased electrification of vehicle categories.

The policy aligns with India's
National Electric Mobility Mission, the PM e-Drive Scheme, and the
country's commitment to sustainable urban transport and net-zero
emissions.

Delhi EV Policy 2.0:
1.
Aim: To accelerate the transition towards 100% electric mobility and
improve urban air quality.
2.
Policy Timeline: It is proposed to remain in force from 1 July 2026 to 31 March 2030.
3.
Nodal Agency: Transport
Department, Government of Delhi.
4.
Charging Infrastructure: Developed by Delhi Transco Ltd. (DTL) in coordination with power
utilities.
5.
Incentives:
i.
Purchase incentives for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, N1 commercial trucks.
ii.
Scrapping incentives for older BS-IV and below vehicles.
iii.
Road tax and registration
fee waived for eligible EVs (cars up to ₹30
lakh ex-showroom price).
6.
Charging Infrastructure: Aims to install 32,000
EV charging points over the next four years with support from the PM
e-Drive Scheme and the Delhi Government.
7.
Special Provisions:
i.
Electric N2 trucks will receive 10-year exemption from
'No Entry' restrictions for the first 1,000 vehicles purchased
within three months of policy notification.
ii.
No subsidies will be provided for hybrid vehicles.
iii.
Digital Governance: A dedicated EV
Portal will facilitate vehicle registration tracking, online subsidy
applications, direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of incentives.
