Current relevance:

        Home minister launched NAFED's digital e-auction portal, NAFEX.in, to promote transparent, technology-driven, and efficient agricultural marketing under the cooperative sector.

 

  

What is NAFEX.in?

1.         National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED) launched NAFEX.in, an e-auction portal for transparent sale and procurement of agricultural produce.

2.       Aim: Digital auctions, better price discovery, Transparent marketing, Reduced transaction costs.

About NAFED:

1.         Aim: Both production and procurement of Agri-produce. Strengthening direct procurement of pulses from farmers through NAFED and NCCF to ensure remunerative prices, encourage greater pulses cultivation, and achieve self-reliance in pulse production

2.       NAFED has expanded beyond procurement into:

(i)     Organic farming

(ii)   Seed production

(iii) Bio-fertilizers

(iv) Retail marketing

(v)  Food security

(vi)  International agricultural trade

1.         It also launches three other Initiatives, Namely

(i)     DRISHTI – Digital monitoring & analytics system

(ii)   ERP – Enterprise Resource Planning for integrated organisational management

(iii) NAFED Kalyan – Welfare initiative for farmers and stakeholders

2.       Other Notables:

(i)     NAFED has decided to earmark 1% of its profits as scholarships for higher education and career development of children from farmer families.

(ii)   Institutional Strengthening- NAFED reportedly recovered from financial distress and has significantly improved its operational scale.
