Chota Tingrai Tea Estate in Tinsukia district, Assam, has produced
and auctioned India's first commercially manufactured “matcha tea” at
the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).

About Matcha Tea:
1.
A premium powdered green tea prepared
from specially cultivated tea leaves.
2.
It is traditionally originated in Japan, while the tea plant (Camellia
sinensis) is native to East Asia.
3.
Tea
plants are shade-grown for 3–4 weeks before harvest, reducing sunlight
exposure and enhancing chlorophyll and amino acid content.

Growing
Conditions: Thrives
in cool, humid climates with well-distributed rainfall, well-drained
acidic soils, and high-altitude or hilly regions.
5.
Processing:
Tender leaves are
steamed, dried, de-stemmed, and finely ground into a vibrant green powder using
specialised stone or mechanical grinders.
6.
Key
Nutrients: Rich
in catechins (especially EGCG), chlorophyll, L-theanine, vitamins,
minerals, and natural caffeine.
