Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and launched the Modified UDAN Scheme.

 

Highlights:

Background:

1.      UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme launched in 2016 under the National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP), 2016.

2.      Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Civil Aviation.

3.      Objective: To make air travel affordable and connect underserved and unserved airports across India through the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).

4.      Operates through Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to airlines for selected regional routes.

Modified UDAN Scheme:

        i.            It is the next phase of the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) initiative launched by the Government of India to strengthen regional air connectivity.

      ii.            The scheme has an outlay of ₹28,840 crore for implementation over the next 10 years.

    iii.            It focuses on developing airports, heliports, and water aerodromes, while enhancing last-mile connectivity and supporting inclusive economic growth.

    iv.            The scheme seeks to accelerate aviation-led development by boosting tourism, trade, investment, and employment across the country.

New Jodhpur Airport Terminal:

           i.            It is a modern passenger facility designed to provide a seamless and comfortable travel experience.

         ii.            Its architecture reflects Rajasthan's royal heritage by blending traditional design elements with contemporary airport infrastructure.
