Current
relevance:
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) validated
the Assam Forest Department's estimate of 12 tigers in Nameri Tiger
Reserve by the end of 2025, marking a fourfold increase in tiger
population.

About Nameri Tiger Reserve:
1.
It is
located in Sonitpur district of Assam, in the foothills of the
Eastern Himalayas.
2.
It shares an
international ecological landscape with the Pakke Tiger Reserve in
Arunachal Pradesh, facilitating wildlife movement.
3.
The Jia
Bhoroli River (known as the Kameng River in Arunachal Pradesh) flows
through the reserve, supporting its rich aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity.
4.
Vegetation: Comprises tropical evergreen, semi-evergreen,
moist deciduous forests, along with extensive grasslands.
5.
Fauna: Home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asian
Elephant, Clouded Leopard, Leopard, Gaur, Sambar,
Wild Boar, and several species of hornbills.
Reasons for Conservation Success:
1.
Continuous
habitat protection and restoration have created a favourable environment for tiger conservation.
2.
Scientific
monitoring and regular wildlife surveys have enabled effective population assessment and management.
3.
Strengthened
anti-poaching measures and improved conservation management have enhanced
tiger protection.
4. Landscape-level conservation efforts have improved habitat connectivity and supported the recovery of tiger populations.
