News: Unmasking India’s osteoporosis care crisis

 

What's in the news?

       Only a small percentage of people in India receive care for their osteoporosis — a condition characterised by weakening of bones.

 

Osteoporosis:

       Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones start to become weak and brittle - in fact, your bones will become so weak that even a mild fall or stress like bending can cause a fracture.

       It causes long-term pain, changes in posture and increases chances of fractures and nerve injury.

       It is caused due to the deficiency of Vitamin - D.

 

Symptoms:

       Inactive gums

       Leaning posture

       Strength starts to weaken

       Loss of height over time

       Bones break much more easily

       Osteoporosis may limit mobility, which often leads to feelings of isolation or depression.
