The Department of
Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) conducted the third
national-level Pashujanya Yudh Abhyas (PYA) in Khari village, Vidisha
district, Madhya Pradesh.
Highlights:
1.
Pashujanya
Yudh Abhyas (PYA) is a
national-level mock drill conducted under the National One Health
Mission to assess India's preparedness for animal health
emergencies and zoonotic disease outbreaks.
2.
Objective:
To validate emergency response mechanisms, strengthen
inter-sectoral coordination, and improve preparedness for the early detection,
containment, and management of zoonotic diseases.
3.
The exercise
simulated an Influenza A (H1N1) outbreak in animals with the potential to
spill over to humans and wildlife, testing the complete outbreak response
chain.
4.
The One
Health approach was demonstrated by integrating the animal health, human
health, wildlife, food safety, laboratory, and district administration sectors
into a unified response mechanism.
5.
Significance:
i.
Enhances
India's preparedness to prevent and respond effectively to zoonotic disease outbreaks.
ii.
Promotes
coordinated action among multiple sectors through the One Health
framework.
iii.
Improves
surveillance, laboratory infrastructure, and emergency response capabilities.

Facilitates
the early detection and rapid containment of emerging and re-emerging
infectious diseases.

Strengthens
resilient veterinary and public health systems for improved health
security.
