Current relevance:

Recently, the facial identification of an accident victim to claim relief has been removed, under the PM RAHAT (Road Accident Victim Hospitalization and Assured Treatment) Scheme.

 


PM RAHAT scheme:

1.         Objective: To ensure immediate cashless emergency treatment for road accident victims during the Golden Hour, reduce fatalities, and eliminate financial barriers to timely medical care.

2.       Nodal Ministry: Implemented by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

3.       Key Features:

(i)     Provides cashless medical treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh for eligible road accident victims, covering hospitalization for up to 7 days from the date of the accident.

(ii)   Stabilization treatment is provided for up to 24 hours in non-life-threatening cases and up to 48 hours in life-threatening cases.

(iii) Operates through an integrated digital platform that connects hospitals, police, and emergency response systems, enabling faster verification and claim processing.

(iv) Promotes the Good Samaritan framework by facilitating immediate medical assistance regardless of the victim's financial condition.

(v)  Emergency Response Support System, dial 112 to access ambulance services and the nearest designated hospital during a road accident emergency.
