News: PM lauds PM Matru Vandana Yojana

       Recently, The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has lauded the new initiative of celebrating ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’ as ‘God Bharai' ceremony.

       God Bharai ceremony was conducted in Rajasthan, where all the pregnant women come together and they give them 'Poshan Kit' for the health of their babies.

 

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana:

About:

       Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a Centrally Sponsored direct benefit transfer scheme.

 

Year of launch:

       The PMMVY was launched in 2017 as a replacement for the previous Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana.

 

Cash transfer:

       It provides a cash incentive of ₹5000 to Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers of 19 years of age or above for the first live birth.

       The incentive is paid in three installments upon fulfilling certain health and nutrition conditions.

       ₹ 1000 was to be given under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) for institutional delivery.

 

Nodal ministry:

        It was executed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development

 

Beneficiaries:

       All Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM), excluding those who are in regular employment with the Central Government or the State Governments or PSUs.

       It is available only for the first child only.
