Current relevance:

             India and Indonesia jointly inaugurated a conservation and restoration project for the Prambanan Temple Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.



 At a glance:

1.      The initiative reflects the deep historical, cultural, and civilisational ties between India and Indonesia, rooted in centuries of shared heritage and cultural exchanges.

2.      The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will serve as the lead Indian agency for implementing the restoration project in collaboration with Indonesian authorities.

3.      About Prambanan Temple:

                    i.            It is the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia, located in Yogyakarta.

                  ii.            It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.

                iii.            It is dedicated to the Trimurti—Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma.
