Current relevance:

             The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) won the WSIS Prize 2026 under Action Line C6 – Enabling Environment for its flagship Samriddh Gram: Integrated Phygital Service Delivery Model Enabled by BharatNet, receiving global recognition for promoting inclusive rural digital development.

 

  

Highlights:

About Samriddh Gram:

1.      It is a flagship rural digital transformation initiative of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications.

2.      It is built on the BharatNet broadband network to deliver integrated phygital (physical + digital) services in rural areas.

3.      The initiative establishes Samriddhi Kendras as one-stop village service centres.

4.      It provides services in healthcare, education, agriculture, financial inclusion, skilling, e-governance, and e-commerce.

5.      It integrates telecom connectivity, digital platforms, and assisted physical service delivery for seamless access to public services.

6.      Supports technologies such as Health ATMs, AR/VR-based skill development, IoT-enabled agriculture, drone-assisted farming, PM-WANI, FTTH connectivity, and digital governance services.

7.      It aims to bridge the digital divide and promote inclusive rural development through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

WSIS Prizes:

1.      The WSIS Prizes are organised under the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

2.      They recognise projects that effectively use Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to promote sustainable development.

3.      Samriddh Gram won the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize 2026 under Action Line C6 – Enabling Environment during the WSIS Forum 2026 held in Geneva.
