News: India to host 2nd Voice of Global South Summit today

       India will host the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit in a virtual format, in what will be the second time since January this year.

 

Key takeaways:

       The second summit will start with an Inaugural Leaders’ Session chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

 

Voice of Global South Summit:

       India hosted the summit in a bid to articulate the views of the developing countries regarding the effects of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

       The event has planned eight ministerial sessions including finance, energy, education, foreign affairs, and commerce.

 

Members:

       The unique initiative brought together 125 countries of the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on a common platform.

 

Focus:

       The 2nd summit would focus on sharing with countries of the Global South the key outcomes achieved in various G20 meetings over the course of India’s Presidency.

 

Theme: “Together, for Everyone’s Growth, with Everyone’s Trust”.

 

Ministers Session:

       The eight ministerial sessions will include two Foreign Ministers’ Sessions; one Ministerial session each of Education, Finance, Environment, Energy, Health & Commerce Ministers and a Concluding Leaders’ Session in the evening.

       Global North refers loosely to countries like the US, Canada, Europe, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.

Global South includes countries in Asia, Africa and South America.
