TITBITS:

1. India supports the restoration of peace between Ukraine and Russia and is committed to providing "all possible assistance" to end the crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

2. Google announced the "first corporate agreement" to buy nuclear energy from multiple Small Modular Reactors (SMR). These SMRs will be developed by Kairos Power. The initial phase of the work will bring up the first SMR by 2030, and subsequent deployments will continue through 2035.

 

3. India's fourth nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), referred to as S4*, was launched into water at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam last week, official sources confirmed. This submarine is bigger and more capable than the first, INS Arihant (S2). 

 

4. Recently, the US Federal Trade Commission announced that it will soon implement a “Click-to-Cancel” Rule. 

  • This rule will make it easier for consumers to cancel subscriptions and memberships. 
  • This rule will hold companies accountable for making cancellation difficult, and they could face penalties for doing so.

 

5.Locusts

Farmers in Kerala are experiencing the menace of locust infestation.

 

·         Short-horned insects similar to grasshoppers with highly migratory habits.

·         Exhibit voracious feeding behaviour leading to food and fodder emergency.

·         4 species including Desert, Migratory, Bombay, and Tree locust are found in India.

·         Preventive Steps – Use of Pesticide like Malathion

 

6.Inter Parliamentary Union

Recently, 149th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) concluded.

·         Global organization of national parliaments

·         Began in 1889

·         Objective – Facilitates parliamentary diplomacy and empower parliaments to promote peace and democracy around the world.

·         Members – 180 Members (Including India)

·         HQ – Geneva, Switzerland

 

7.Musaned Platform

Recently, Saudi Arabia launched the digital platform Musaned to ensure wage protection of expatriate workers.

  • Musaned is an electronic platform and a new integrated system that facilitates recruitment procedures in an unprecedented manner.
  • The platform aims to facilitate the recruitment process of domestic workers, enhance the protection of rights for all parties involved, and inform employers and domestic workers of their rights and responsibilities.
  • It will benefit at least 10 African countries like Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Egypt and Kenya as well as nine Asian countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Vietnam, Philippines and Sri Lanka.
