News: Starlink: Why the new sovereign of low-earth orbit is bad news

What's in the news?

The integration of Starlink's technology into military applications has ignited debates about remote control capabilities and the potential risks associated with a monopoly over space-based communication infrastructure.

Starlink:

Starlink is a satellite constellation that comprises thousands of small satellites in low-Earth orbit.

Currently, there are more than 3,000 of these satellites that send internet signals to designated ground receivers.

Launched by - SpaceX (Tesla)

Advantages:

Reduced latency between sender and receiver as the satellites are placed in LEO.

It can deliver the internet to remote parts of world, where traditional ways (fibre-optic cables) has failed to deliver the internet.

Disadvantages:

Many more satellites are needed in order to reach signals to every part of the earth.

The satellites of Starlink work only for five years and once they are dysfunctional, they remain in space and contribute to space debris.

Made drone warfare much easier, which results in huge destruction.
