Digital infrastructure is now as
vital as physical infrastructure, supporting governance, finance, defence and
public service delivery.

Infrastructure (Aadhaar, UPI and DigiLocker) serves over 1.4 billion
Aadhaar holders, while UPI processed over 18 billion transactions in May
2026, highlighting its critical national importance.

Heavy reliance on foreign cloud platforms,
enterprise software and semiconductor imports create supply-chain and strategic
risks.
Example: The Economic Survey 2024–25 highlighted
India's high dependence on imported semiconductors, leading to the
strengthening of the India Semiconductor Mission to build domestic chip
manufacturing.
