Current relevance:
The Department of Social Justice and
Empowerment (DoSJE) will sign an MoU with Ramakrishna Math and
Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) to implement the nationwide ‘Creating
Intergenerational Bonding’ initiative.
Highlights:
1.
About the
Initiative:
i.
It aims to strengthen emotional and
cultural bonds among children, parents and grandparents, with an initial
rollout across 200 pilot schools nationwide.
ii.
It will use play-based and
evidence-informed activities delivered through the school system.
iii.
A scalable design and implementation model
will initially be introduced across 200 pilot schools nationwide.
iv.
The programme reflects the idea of respect
for elders and inclusive development, with every generation moving forward
together.
2.
Key Components:
i.
Co-Learning Games:
Promote interaction and learning between different generations.
ii.
Bilingual Resource Centre website:
Provide resources supporting implementation of the programme.
iii.
Teacher Certification: Equip
teachers to facilitate intergenerational activities.
iv.
Based on its implementation, the programme
has the potential for expansion and sustained implementation across the
country.
3.
Role in Senior
Citizen Welfare:
i.
The initiative is expected to complement
existing senior citizen welfare measures, including the Atal Vayo Abhyuday
Yojana (AVYAY) and Elderline helpline.
ii.
It provides opportunities for senior
citizens to transmit their wisdom and values to younger generations.
iii.
It seeks to enable parents to bridge
tradition and modernity.
iv.
It aims to help children remain rooted in
culture while developing emotional security.
4.
Institutional
Partnership:
i.
The initiative is a collaboration between the
Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ramakrishna Math and
Ramakrishna Mission.
ii.
RKM will serve as the implementing partner,
supported by a Knowledge Development Partner for research, design and
assessment.
iii.
RKM has more than a century of experience in education,
health, culture and humanitarian service.
iv.
The collaboration seeks to develop a model
capable of being scaled and sustained nationwide.
