Current relevance:

The Union Health Minister will launch the Samagra Shishu Bal Swasthya Karyakram (SSBSK) during the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW) to strengthen newborn and child healthcare services.

 

 

 

 

 

 

About SSBSK:

1.         Objective: To provide comprehensive home and community-based healthcare for children from birth to 36 months, ensuring continuity of care, improved child survival, nutrition, healthy growth, and early childhood development.

2.       It is implemented by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW)

3.       It is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) implemented under the National Health Mission (NHM).

4.       Beneficiaries: Newborns and children from birth to 36 months, particularly 'at-risk' children, while also providing support to post-partum mothers, caregivers, and families through home and community-based healthcare services.

Key Features:

1.         Integrated Child Care: Merges Home-Based Newborn Care (HBNC) and Home-Based Care for Young Child (HBYC) into a unified programme.

2.       Community Healthcare: Joint home visits by ASHAs, ANMs, Community Health Officers (CHOs), and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs).

3.       Conducts Well-Baby Sessions during Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHSND) and monthly Shishu Shivir at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.

4.       Digital-Era Child Development: Promotes physical activity, age-appropriate play, and mental stimulation, while discouraging excessive screen time during the first three years of life.
